Welcome to FAQ section. I am glad for as many questions as you can ask. It gives me the more precise vision and I can clarify certain mind things. Here are some questions from the friends and people around.
So is this game coop or not?
This game is supposed to be a COOP game. I will aim to have a Dedicated server solution where you can mod and play your own adventure with friends. It’s more complicated with a networking but I’m using FishNET and it shouldn’t be as hard as I initially thought.
What type of game it will be?
Do you know S.T.A.L.K.E.R, or Fallout, Borderlands or Valheim? I fell in love with these games in certain aspects so the idea is to have a combination of sandbox and background story driven game. The game does not push you into the main story line but you have always the feeling that you are part of it. I would like to combine these aspect and have some limited sandbox experience so you have some limited time to achieve the end game.
What does it mean to have limited sandbox?
The game tells you that you have certain amount of time until the radiation is spread completely across the map and you goal is to get rid of the radiation in the given time. There will be some ways how you could extend the time or even make it permanent but this will be announced later 🙂 I still need to have some secrets.
What is the main game loop?
Very briefly said – get your friends, setup your loadouts, go to the zone, capture and destroy all the irradiated places, complete tasks for the main story characters. Secure the zone and win the game. This might be changed a bit during the development process but long story short, it will be an exploration survival with a given tasks so you will know what to do. Whether you will follow it is up to you.
Anyting interesting in terms of mechanics?
There will be some hand crafted world with a several Points of Interests, these POIs will be randomized and whenever you start new gameplay, the whole world will be a bit different with a new setup of these points. Quests and progression will be changed in certain aspects. Details of the world will be generated and loot will be randomized (sure limited in certain conditions). You won’t find AK in the supermarket. 😀
But I would like to achieve some kind of replayablity so you don’t get bored after the first playthrough and you will certainly need more attempts to complete the game with your friend or alone.
There will be more irradiated places which won’t be accessible at the beginning but you are able to explore the world as you wish so no leveling, no skills, no pre-requirements, just a gun and some food you need to have. Also the more you explore, the more places have a possibility to build your base on top of that. This won’t be complex base building, just a simple upgrading mechanism for crafting stations which you can share with your teammates and other players.
What is Antenne system?
There will be also the “Antenne mechanism”. These relays will be connected to other realms (if you enable it). You can potentially communicate with other survivors outside of your game. These relays can be than upgraded and shared across the connected members. These relays also brings a new threat.
Streamers support?
Once you enable the Antenne broadcasting, you can connect your game to your own twitch session and your audience might have a big influence on the gameplay. Let’s say your viewers will be able to add new monsters and make the game harder, more challenging.
Will there be an impact on the campaign or eventually competitive multiplayer?
I can assure you that it won’t be another kind of CoD game or F76 bizzare coop. My plan is to have nice coop experience or closed community sessions where people are not toxic and enjoy the game. I won’t limit you to use my own server solution, neither buy premium membership to have closed game session. Plan is to deliver dedicated server solution so people will be able to host their own sessions on their machines. I’m oldschool fan of lan parties and I can’t deprive other players of the opportunity to play my game on their own.
When can I play it?
I hope the end of 2022 there will be some tech demo available so you will be able to touch the controls and touch the look & feel of the game. But take in consideration, that this tech demo will be very brief and there won’t be half of the mention mechanics.
Is there any demo?
Not yet, TBA.
Will it be on STEAM?
Definitely
How much will it cost?
It’s a good question and I don’t know how financially I will solve this. I hope I can bring more attention in some kind of the kickstarter campaign or patreon so It could earn something for the development itself. After the release it will be for a reasonable price.
Are you planning STEAM Workshop compatibility?
I will definitely allow other people to mod the game. Modding community is crucial for me and I hope I will be able to deliver.
Will it be DRM-Free?
I’ll try to do my best and do so, but It’s a question which I’m not able to answer at the moment.
Which OS are planned to be supported?
In respective order – Windows, MacOS & Linux, Consoles – PS and XBox
Will it be available on platforms other than steam (e.g. gog, humblebundle, epic store, itch.io?
GOG and Epic is in the consideration. It depends on the support and success of the project.
What regions the game could be available in?
Honestly I haven’t been thinking about that. Based on the state of the game and content, I will decide but the more, the better. Unfortunately some countries have more strict rules.
So are you the solo developer, or is there a team, or some hired help?
Currently solo and hopefully more people will get engaged.
Do you really think you can pull this off as a one-man show?
Definitely not alone. I have family and daily work. If I get funding on this project, I will hire bunch of people and keep it in the small garage team so we can do what we love.
I know there are huge goals and very hard to achieve in one-man show but firstly I’d like to build a foundation which could be expanded. Hopefully it will attract more people so there might be a team working on it in the future.
